Here Hugo, a Spritz!
You having a laugh mate?
The spritz is a lesson in
simplicity – a perfect
manifestation of less is
more. With only two alcoholic
ingredients, a dash of water
and some bits to spruce up
the aesthetics, it also takes
fabulously little time to whip up
this delectable drink.
The Hugo Spritz originates in the
South Tyrol province of Northern
Italy amid the Dolomite mountain
range. Unlike many other variants,
the Hugo Spritz isn’t made with
a bitter aperitif but rather with an
elder昀氀ower cordial often made
locally by allowing the 昀氀owers
and sugar to ferment in the sun
instead. Our sun is limited here
in the UK so for this recipe we’ll
make due with readily available
St-Germain elder昀氀ower liqueur.
Ingredients
•
1/2 ounce St-Germain
•
1 sprig mint
•
4 ounces prosecco, chilled
•
1 ounce soda water, chilled
•
Garnish: mint sprig
•
Garnish: lemon wheel
Steps
1. Add the St. Germain and mint sprig into a wine glass. Gently
muddle and let sit for 3 minutes.
2. Add ice, the prosecco and the soda water and stir brie昀氀y and gently
to combine.
3. Garnish with a mint sprig and a lemon wheel.
