YESTERDAY’S NEWS TOMORROW
And before you scoff at the shine,
hear this: for those who know design,
chrome is less about bling and more
about restraint, cleanliness, and a
certain kind of timeless confidence.
Take the Wassily Chair. Designed by
Marcel Breuer at the original Bauhaus,
it was one of the first pieces to use
tubular steel and polished chrome
to strip furniture back to its bare
essentials — structure, form, function.
Its frame seems to float, its silhouette
is clean, and what you get is a chair
that whispers modernity rather
than shouts it. Cheekily elegant and
expertly engineered, it didn’t just
survive decades of style swings — it
defined modern furniture.
What’s interesting is how chrome
works in interiors today. It’s not
being used as the showpiece, but as
jewellery for a room. A chrome leg
here, a tubular frame there — subtle

touches that give a space structure,
light, a measured contrast against
wood, marble, soft fabrics or muted
neutrals. In corporate lounges,
breakout zones, or even boutique
offices, the effect is immediate: clarity,
sharpness, a bit of cool calm in the
visual noise.
There’s a reason chrome is resurging
now. Offices — especially in postpandemic times — are craving honesty
in materials. Plastic laminate and
generic veneers scream “temporary
solution.” But polished metal, done
right, says “built to last.” Chrome is
durable, easy to clean, resistant to
wear, and visually ageless. As more fitouts aim for longevity and a confident,
modern aesthetic, metal frames are
becoming a go-to structural and
decorative choice.
Pair chrome with warm wood, soft
upholstery or marble flooring — and

you get a balance: hard and soft, cool
and warm, functional and refined.
An office fitted out this way speaks
of intention. It says you designed for
people and time, not just trends.
In short: chrome isn’t back because
someone missed it. It’s back because
interiors — like fashion — have come
full circle.
