YESTERDAY’S NEWS TOMORROW
ASH & BEECH
Ash and Beech are both common in
European forests and widely used in
furniture making.
TEAK
Teak, while naturally unsustainable
due to slow growth, is often used in a
reclaimed format. If you select teak,
make sure that you ask after its FSC
status and whether or not it comes
from reclaimed wood.
GUM & ACACIA
Eucalyptus and Acacia wood are also
generally considered sustainable choices
for furniture, but their environmental
impact depends on sourcing and forestry
practices. Both these trees are fast
growing, but depending on their country of
origin, you should enquire as to whether
they originate in monoculture plantations,
which can lead to soil degradation.
